The OnePlus 10T recently made headlines after it snapped into two pieces during a bend test by Zack Nelson of the popular YouTube channel Jerry Rig Everything. It revived memories of the OnePlus 10 Pro, which also suffered the same fate at the same hands back in January.

Both phones also broke at the same spot — right along the camera bump. This expectedly led the media and the public to question the device’s durability. While OnePlus sat out those questions the last time, it isn’t this time. The company has released an official statement on the matter. It is, unsurprisingly, refuting the reports of structural issues with the OnePlus 10T.

OnePlus says the OnePlus 10T is structurally solid.

In a statement to Gadgets 360, OnePlus said that it thoroughly tested the OnePlus 10T for durability and structural strength before launch. The company hinted that the phone is durable enough to survive the average wear and tear throughout its lifetime.

“The OnePlus 10T meets or exceeds all of OnePlus’ extensive durability testing procedures, this includes a pressure test where the device is suspended while weight is applied to its center on both its front and back,” the statement reads. “The OnePlus 10T has an enhanced structure engineering design and can bear over 45kg [over 99 pounds] of external force in this test at OnePlus’ lab.”

“When designing, engineering, and manufacturing OnePlus devices, we ensure they not only offer a design that is beautiful and burdenless but is also durable so they can withstand everyday usage,” the company added. OnePlus suggests that Zack’s bend test doesn’t accurately measure the phone’s strength. And to some extent, it is right. Zack’s durability tests are extreme and don’t represent the real-world scenarios that your phone will usually encounter. It’s not just his bend test, but the scratch and the burn tests.

However, he has been conducting these durability tests for years. Most devices he tested survived his tortures. Of the few that broke, few broke as swiftly as the OnePlus 10T and the OnePlus 10 Pro. Worse yet, they both failed at the same spot. So, the public questioning their design and structural strength is not unfounded.

The OnePlus 10T may not break into two pieces in normal usage but in case of some unexpected happenings, be wary that it is not structurally as solid as some of the competitors. Apart from that, the phone is a performance powerhouse in its price bracket.
