Have you had you heard about Google Currents? I didn’t, at the very least, not up until the last few days. Google+ is the search giant’s enterprise app designed to allow users to share ideas with colleagues. It’s also the one that replaced Google+ when it got shut down in 2019. In the present, Currents is also going through its process of winding down.
In an article on its blog, Google announced that it would merge Currents with Spaces, Google’s business communication platform. In addition, it will be launching its variant of Slack. It is expected to be completed by 2023. However, no exact dates were provided.

Google Spaces has its turbulent past. Android Central points out; it was initially canceled in 2017, barely one year after its launch. Then Google changed the name of Rooms with Spaces the year before, which included better integration with other Workspace applications like Docs. The fusion into Currents to Spaces is, in comparison, somewhat simpler.

If you’re using Google Currents or are part of an organization that utilizes it, then you’ll likely see this as an overall benefit. Google claims it’s doing this to incorporate an existing “separate, siloed destination” into one that offers more integration with other tools for work that it provides.
