In a major update, Instagram has officially launched the much-anticipated feature allowing all users to download Reels from public accounts. The announcement came directly from Instagram’s CEO, Adam Mosseri, during a recent broadcast.

Watermarked Memes for Download

Users downloading Reels from public accounts will notice a distinct watermark featuring the Instagram logo, ensuring proper attribution. This watermark also includes the account’s username, emphasizing the platform’s commitment to maintaining content integrity.

Musical Reels with a Twist

An interesting aspect of this update is Instagram’s approach to music in downloaded Reels. If a Reel contains original tracks, the downloaded version will retain the music. However, in cases where licensed music is used as a background, Instagram will remove the audio from the downloaded Reel. This move aims to address potential copyright concerns and maintain a fair and respectful environment for content creators.

A similar feature on TikTok inspired this move by Instagram. The ability to download videos has proven to be a valuable tool for users on TikTok, enabling them to share their content seamlessly across various platforms. Instagram’s adoption of this feature is seen as a strategic move to enhance user experience and keep pace with evolving trends in social media content sharing.

The decision to roll out the download feature for Reels follows a testing phase, during which Instagram gauged user feedback and ensured the functionality’s smooth integration. Now available for all users, this feature is expected to contribute to the platform’s overall engagement and user satisfaction.
