In response to customer complaints about the newly launched iPhone 15 models overheating, Apple has announced that it will release a software update to address the issue. The latest iPhone 15 series, which hit the market just over a week ago, has faced criticism for running hotter than expected during use. Apple attributed this problem to bugs in iOS 17, specific apps, and the initial setup period.
The overheating concerns sparked a wave of complaints on various platforms, including Apple’s official forums, Reddit, and social media. Users shared their experiences, with one forum commenter stating, “I just got the iPhone 15 Pro today, and it’s so hot I can’t even hold it for very long!”
Despite the criticism, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, priced at $999 and $1,199, continue to be in high demand. Reports indicate that ship times for these models sometimes stretch out for weeks, and long lines have formed in front of Apple stores on launch days.

JPMorgan analysts noted that lead times for the iPhone 15 Pro Max and other models are tracking higher than their predecessors, signifying strong demand. However, Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo raised concerns that overheating could impact sales.
Apple has a history of dealing with launch issues, such as the iPhone 4’s antenna design flaw in 2010 and the buggy Apple Maps app in 2012. Despite these setbacks, Apple’s long-term outlook has remained robust.
Apple has now identified and addressed the factors contributing to the iPhone 15’s overheating issues:
1. iOS 17 Bug: Apple acknowledged a bug in the iOS 17 software as one of the primary culprits behind the overheating problem. The company assured users this bug would be rectified in an upcoming update.
2. Initial Setup: Apple explained that iPhones may feel warmer during the initial setup or device restoration due to increased background activity. This warmth is temporary and should subside once the setup is complete.
3. Third-Party Apps: Certain third-party apps, including Asphalt 9, Instagram by Meta, and Uber, were identified as causing system overloads. Apple is actively collaborating with these app developers to implement fixes. Instagram, for instance, has already resolved the issue as of September 27.
Apple emphasized that the forthcoming iOS 17 bug fix would not compromise the performance of the iPhone, ensuring that users’ concerns about temperature would be addressed without sacrificing device functionality.
Regarding the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models, Apple clarified that their redesigned titanium shells were designed to enhance heat dissipation compared to previous stainless steel models. As a result, structural design does not contribute to the overheating problem.
Apple reassured users that the overheating concerns surrounding the iPhone 15 do not pose safety or long-term performance risks to the device. With a software update on the horizon and ongoing collaboration with app developers, the company aims to resolve this issue and provide a more comfortable user experience with its latest flagship smartphones.
