Japan plans to launch a bullet train linking Earth with the moon and Mars.
Japanese researchers have unveiled ambitious plans to revolutionize space travel with the development of a bullet train that will connect Earth to the moon and Mars. Spearheaded by the Human Spaceology Centre at Kyoto University and construction company Kajima Corporation, this groundbreaking project aims to establish a transportation system known as the “Hexagon Space Track System.”
At the heart of this visionary concept is the “space train,” a high-speed vehicle that will shuttle passengers between Earth, the moon, and Mars, making stops at stations located on orbiting satellites. Resembling the iconic Japanese Bullet trains in size and design, these space trains will utilize advanced propulsion systems such as linear motors or rocket engines to propel themselves through the cosmos.
The Hexagon Space Track System will employ a modular approach, with the space train consisting of six interconnected cars housed within hexagonal capsules. During launch, these capsules will be connected by bars to maintain alignment, ensuring a smooth journey into space. Upon reaching their destination, the cars will be separated, allowing each vehicle to navigate independently using rocket ejection devices to escape the gravitational pull of celestial bodies.

Crucially, the innovative design of the space train will enable it to operate both in the vacuum of space and within the atmospheres of planets like the moon and Mars. For planetary landings, the train’s wings will deploy, harnessing lift to guide the vehicle safely to the surface. Once on the moon and Mars, the space train will function as a high-speed railway, connecting base cities and facilitating transportation across these extraterrestrial landscapes.
In addition to facilitating interplanetary travel, the Hexagon Space Track System will pave the way for the establishment of “artificial gravity living facilities” on the moon and Mars. These facilities, named Lunar Glass and Mars Glass respectively, will boast environments designed to replicate Earth’s biodiversity, featuring forests, waterfronts, and other natural landscapes.
By providing inhabitants with a familiar level of gravity and a semblance of Earth-like surroundings, these facilities aim to enhance the long-term viability of human colonization efforts on other celestial bodies.
