Ravn X: The World’s Biggest Drone That Can Launch Satellites
Go big or go home. That’s the motto of Aevum, an Alabama-based start-up that has just unveiled the biggest drone in the world. The massive drone, called the Ravn X, is designed to launch small satellites into orbit while airborne.
The Ravn X is 80 feet long and 18 feet tall, with a wingspan of 60 feet. It weighs 55,000 pounds and is powered by a hybrid-electric propulsion system. The drone is designed to fly autonomously to a predetermined altitude, where it will launch a rocket carrying a small satellite into orbit.
Aevum says that the Ravn X could revolutionize the way satellites are launched. Currently, most satellites are launched from ground-based rockets, which is costly and time-consuming. The Ravn X could launch satellites more quickly and cheaply and open up new possibilities for launching satellites from remote locations.
The Ravn X is still in development, but Aevum plans to conduct its first test flight in 2024. If successful, the Ravn X could majorly impact the space industry.
