Scientists Built Tiny VR Goggles for Mice to More Realistically Experience VR in the Lab
Scientists at Cornell University have introduced MouseGoggles, a VR system designed for mice. This new tech allows the rodents to experience virtual environments more realistically during experiments. Unlike previous setups, which had limited visuals, MouseGoggles provide a full field of view, leading to more accurate reactions from the mice.
By using inexpensive smartwatch parts, the researchers created a lightweight system that tracks the mice’s eye movements. Early tests showed strong reactions from the mice to virtual stimuli, such as a looming predator. This breakthrough could enhance studies on brain activity, memory, and treatments for disorders like Alzheimer’s.
