CES 2022 has genuinely been an event with screens in all sizes, shapes, and uses. It has been awe-inspiring to see the world’s first 4K gaming monitor with 240Hz as well as bizarre tricks using curving screens from Samsung. LG brought the largest and the smaller OLED gaming monitors on the market. Today, HP has come out with the brand new HP Omen 27u Gaming Monitor, which looks like 4K is finally in the cards.

The latest HP Omen 27u from HP is the most recent model in HP’s collection of 27″ gaming monitors. The previous model, the 27i, had a QHD resolution of 65 Hz, somewhat similar to its predecessor, the model from HP Omen 25i, a gaming display that we tested. The latest model supports 4K UHD (3840 2160 pixels); however, it has a 144 Hz refresh rate with a 1ms response. The brightness is a small increment to 450 nits, which will appear more vibrant with the HDR capabilities. There are two USB A ports and even one USB C built-in, which indicates the changing new technology.

The monitor has a standard DisplayPort which is likely to keep most PC enthusiasts’ content, mainly thanks to its AMD FreeSync Premium Pro adaptive sync feature. There are also two HDMI ports, which in the specifications are described as having HDMI 2.1 while the third is HDMI 2.0. Because HDMI 2.1 technically encompasses HDMI 2.0 today, it’s great to keep the distinction. HP states that its HDMI 2.1 port can support the 120-Hz of refresh rate, making it an ideal monitor connected to modern consoles and PCs. The HDMI 2.1 port also has built-in speakers making it suitable for a short game session.

There’s also an array of fun games features available to gamers. It would not be an Omen monitor without lots of RGB as it does and is customizable to match your personal preferences. Also, there’s an Omen gaming hub, which includes additional collaboration options designed specifically for gamers, such as enhancing dark areas without exposing the screen. There’s also Game Remaster mode that lets gamers downscale games from the past to appear more as you remember them.
